Laboratory Locations

Forensic analysis is provided by more than 100 employees located in five regional laboratories in Bend, Central Point, Pendleton, Portland, and Springfield. We provide timely and accurate scientific, technical and investigative support to the criminal justice system. Our scientific examination and analysis provides information that assists criminal justice partners in solving crimes and protecting the resources and safety of the people of Oregon. Our analysis also increases the probability of the prompt apprehension and conviction of the guilty and similarly prompt protection of the innocent.

We are Oregon's only full-service forensic laboratory system and are the sole provider for most forensic science services. We provide scientific examination of evidence for all criminal justice system partners including police departments, Sheriff's departments, Oregon State Police offices, District Attorney's offices, the United States Attorney for Oregon, criminal defense attorneys, and the FBI.

Our scientists analyze evidence and provide expert testimony in the following disciplines: biology, chemistry, crime scene investigation, DNA, latent prints/impressions, toxicology, breath alcohol, trace, firearms and toolmarks.

We consistently meet a challenging set of forensic science accreditation requirements while delivering the highest quality scientific analysis. We are proudly accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) in forensic testing1 and breath alcohol calibration to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and ANAB AR 3125. We strive for efficiency and excellence in customer service for all members of the criminal justice system.  All analysts are proficiency tested annually, and casework is technically reviewed by a second analyst.  In addition, every laboratory undergoes an annual audit by the Quality Assurance Manager and an external assessment activity by ANAB.  These measures and others ensure the highest standards of reliability and accuracy.

We are the only Oregon entity with access to the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS).  This system and the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) provide powerful and fast analytical support that help our scientists work efficiently and effectively to identify people involved in crimes.
