Frequently Asked Questions for CPA Exam Candidates

Is there a deadline for applying to take the examination?
There is no deadline for submitting your application. Some test centers fill quickly, especially during certain times of the year.  Allow plenty of time for your application/registration to be processed. You cannot schedule your examination until you receive your Notice To Schedule (NTS). You must schedule your appointment at least 7 days in advance, but it is recommended to schedule your examination 45 days in advance.

How often will I be able to take the exam?
NASBA has adopted a plan for continuous testing beginning July 1, 2020.   CLICK HERE for more information.

How is credit maintained for exam sections passed under CBT?
All sections of the exam must be passed within an 18 month period. Exam sections passed are maintained on the candidate’s record for a rolling 18 month period.  If the last of the four exam sections is not passed within 18 months of the date that the first section was passed, the earliest section is removed from the candidate’s record, and that section must be taken again within the new 18 month period.

Are testing accommodations available for candidates with a disability or injury?
Yes.  Requests for testing accommodations must be submitted in writing with the application.  A medical professional will need to complete the provider portion of the Request for Accommodation of Disabilities form.  The candidate must furnish appropriate documentation of the disability or injury to the Board.

Are testing accommodations available at all test centers?
No.  All test centers are accessible under ADA requirements; however, some testing accommodations may not be available at all centers.

How will I be notified when I can schedule an examination?
After all required documents and fees have been received and the application approved, candidates will receive an Authorization to Test (ATT) by email.  Shortly thereafter, NASBA will send the candidate a payment coupon for examination fees.  The candidate must pay for all sections authorized on the ATT to NASBA.  After exam fees are paid, the candidate will receive a Notice to Schedule (NTS) from NASBA.  Once a NTS is received, you may contact any approved Prometric Testing Center to schedule an appointment.

Can an exam be rescheduled?
Yes.  A candidate may reschedule or cancel at www.prometric.com or by contacting the Customer Service Call Center.  If you reschedule fewer than 30 business days before your appointment, you will incur a rescheduling fee.  No cancellations are allowed 24 hours or less from your appointment time.
Am I required to have the notary section of my application completed?
Yes.  All applications must be complete, including proper payment, to be processed by the Board.

Can the Board approve my transcript without an application?
No.  The Board reviews transcripts as part of the application process.   If you have a question about whether a course will be accepted by the Board, please email a link to the course in your school's online course catalog to one of our licensing specialists and they will help you determine if the course will be accepted.

Am I required to have the notary section of my application completed?
Yes.  All applications must be complete, including proper payment, to be processed by the Board.
