Brings longtime state background in policy and communications

Salem – Rem Nivens will step in as interim administrator of the Construction Contractors Board (CCB). The board appointment is effective today.

Nivens, who prior to joining CCB was executive director of the Oregon Alcohol and Drug Policy Commission, brings two decades of experience with various state agencies and expertise in  legislative activities, communications and intergovernmental relations.

His past roles include assistant public affairs director for Oregon Housing and Community Services, policy advisor and government relations manager for the Oregon Youth Authority, deputy communications director for the Oregon Governor’s Office and communications director for the Senate Majority Office.

“Based on Rem’s experience and resume, he will be adept at working with agency stakeholders and staff to maintain the CCB’s excellent customer service as we assess the next steps in recruiting a  permanent administrator,” construction Board Chair Jim Kitchin said.

The former CCB administrator, James Denno, recently took the executive director position with Oregon Travel Experience.

As executive director at the Alcohol and Drug Policy Commission, Nivens oversaw operations for a 19-member commission that is charged, among other things, with developing a statewide alcohol and drug treatment plan.

The CCB licenses more than 38,000 contractors with about 60 employees and a $15.9 million 2017-19 budget.
