State Library Staff Compete NACO Training

Cataloging staff at the State Library of Oregon participated in online NACO (Name Authority Cooperative Program) training from the Library of Congress in September. NACO is part of the program for cooperative cataloging (PCC) in which participants contribute authority records for personal, corporate, and jurisdictional names, as well as uniform titles, such as laws.

We anticipate that we will primarily create or enhance authority records for Oregon state agencies, but we will also occasionally work on names associated with other Oregon-related topics. Our first new authority record for a state agency was Oregon Coordinating Council on Ocean Acidification and Hypoxia.

Now that we have completed the training, we are in a review period until we are given independent status. Going forward, the expectation is 100 new or updated records per year. We look forward to participating in NACO and contributing to the authority file to aid in identity management efforts at our institution and elsewhere.
