Weights and Measures

The Weights and Measures Program acts as an impartial third-party overseeing Oregon’s Commercial Marketplace to ensure equity in transactions for both the buyer and seller while, at the same time, working to encourage economic growth, fair competition and the prevention and elimination of fraud and other deceptive and misleading practices.

Approximately 55,000 commercially used weighing and measuring devices from approximately 11,600 businesses are licensed and examined for accuracy and suitability each year by 18 field inspectors stationed across the state. The program also responds to and investigates complaints of discrepancies in weighing and measuring devices.
