Suggested lead: Bend’s DMV office will close April 25 and 26 so it can move to short-term space a few blocks over
SALEM – If you need to visit the Bend DMV office, don’t go on Thursday or Friday, April 25th or 26th. The office will be closed so staff can move out and remodeling can begin. The Bend DMV will re-open on Monday, April 29 nearby, at its new site, 63030 O.B. Riley Road.
House: The closure for the move includes a weekend that makes a 4-day weekend, so you definitely want to try to avoid the Bend DMV on that Wednesday the 24th or on that Monday the 29th because we expect it to be busy those days. :15
Public Information Officer David House said the Bend DMV will also be closed on Friday, April 19 for a statewide furlough, so those who need DMV services should plan ahead. Better yet, he said, go to OregonDMV.com to see if you can do your transaction online or though the mail.
If you do have to visit the new Bend DMV office, at least you won’t have to go far from the current location. House said the work that will close the current office on April 25 will be complete in 2014.
House: We won’t have a date for some time on the reopening because we have to arrange for a contractor to do the remodeling and then get our equipment in so we’ll announce probably early next year when we move back to the long-term location, where we expect to be for many years. :16
Reporting from Salem, I’m Shelley Snow.
House: It’s not a very long distance form the current location. Very, very short drive and we’ll have signs posted to remind people in case they go to the current location by mistake. :10
