OR 8 Improvements: SW 110th Avenue to SW 192nd Avenue

​​​​​​​​​​​​Construction finished in Nov. 2023 on a project to improve traffic signals and pedestrian connectivity at eight intersections along Canyon Road (OR 8) in Beaverton and Aloha.

About

We improved safety at eight intersections along OR 8/Canyon Road in Beaverton and Aloha. Signal upgrades listed below included upgrading the traffic signal heads and hardware, along with new reflective plates behind the signal heads.  We also upgraded road signs and trimmed vegetation to improve visibility at each intersection.

Work took place at the following intersections along OR 8/Canyon Road:

  • SW 110th Avenue – Work included signal upgrades, rebuilding ADA ramps at intersection corners and adding pedestrian signal heads and countdown timers. Additionally, we added new sidewalk and a bike lane on the south side of Canyon Road, east of SW 110th Avenue and a new traffic signal pole in the SE corner of the intersection.

  • At the OR 217 northbound ramps (the east side of OR 217) – Work included signal upgrades, rebuilding ADA ramps at intersection corners and adding pedestrian signal heads and countdown timers.  Additionally, we added new crosswalk striping across the northbound on-ramp to OR 217. 

  • SW 117th Avenue/SW Broadway Street - Work included signal upgrades, rebuilding ADA ramps at intersection corners and adding pedestrian signal heads and countdown timers.

  • SW Lombard Avenue - Work included signal upgrades.

  • SW Hall Boulevard – Work included signal upgrades, rebuilding ADA ramps at intersection corners and adding pedestrian signal heads and countdown timers.

  • SW Watson Avenue – Work included signal upgrades, adding new sidewalk, rebuilding ADA ramps at intersection corners and adding pedestrian signal heads and countdown timers.

  • SW 178th Avenue - Work included new sidewalk and bus shelter on the north side of Canyon Road/OR 8.

  • SW 192nd Avenue - Work included a new enhanced crosswalk with a Rapid Flashing Beacon​ and pedestrian island, rebuilding ADA ramps at intersection corners, improved lighting and a new concrete bus pad. This became operational in Sept. 2023.

Adding a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon​ and a pedestrian refuge island at 192nd Avenue will increase pedestrian safety.
