Maj. Gen. Burgin to host press conference
Clackamas, Ore. - Members of the media are invited to a press conference hosted by Maj. Gen. Alex Burgin, The Adjutant General of the Oregon National Guard, to be held on Thursday, January 24, 2002 at 5 p.m. at Camp Withycombe in Clackamas in the 3670th Maintenance Company Armory. Burgin will provide information on the deployment of more than 140 soldiers in support of the 2002 Olympic Games and will return on approximately Feb. 28th. 
The soldiers will be on site at the Armory as they prepare to depart for Utah on Friday and will be available to the media. The first group will depart from the Portland Air Base at 6 a.m. with the second group departing from Flightcraft on Airport Way at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Members of the media will be welcome at the Portland Air Base and at Flightcraft on Friday. Boarding will begin at approximately 5 a.m. at the Air Base and at 1 p.m. at Flightcraft.
Maj. Jason Schwabel of Sherwood, Ore., will act as the Task Force Oregon Commander. They will provide three primary security services: vehicle screening; personnel and bag searches; and perimeter security. Their area of concern will be "E" Center at the Peaks Ice Arena, Utah Olympic Oval which will house the Ice Hockey and Figure Skating competitions.
