1042 Medical Company (AA) soldiers return from Active Duty
Salem, Ore. - On Friday, April 25, 2003 at 2 p.m., the first group of soldiers and helicopters from the 1042nd Medical Company (Air Ambulance) will return from a successful tour of duty in support of Operations Enduring Freedom, Desert Spring and Iraqi Freedom, much of which was performed in Afghanistan. While in country, their mission was the rescue, medical stabilization and transport of both civilian and military personnel injured Often times the casualties treated by the unit were the result of thousands of unexploded landmines left throughout the country after its conflict with the Soviet Union
The 1042nd Forward, commanded by Capt. David A. Strayer of Beaverton, is currently enroute to their final destination at the Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF) located at 1921 Turner Road S.E. in Salem, Ore. Three UH-60L Blackhawks will fly in at approximately 2 p.m. Other soldiers returning by commercial air or privately owned vehicles will form up at the AASF by 1 p.m. to be a part of the welcome home.
Families, friends and members of the media are encouraged to come out to welcome these citizen soldiers home after serving their country for just under one year as part of Operations Enduring Freedom, Desert Spring and Iraqi Freedom.
Returning tomorrow is Capt. Dave Strayer of Beaverton; Chief Warrant Officer 3 Brian Wilkins, Corvallis; Chief Warrant Officer 3 Earl Poole of Medford; Chief Warrant Officer 2 Dennis Cooper of Clancy, Montana; Sgt. First Class Richard Fields, Specialist Kyle Sanders and Chief Warrant Officer 3 Trenton Wilms of Salem; Sgt. Troy Garza and Staff Sgt. Mark Braeme of Molalla; Staff Sgt. Kurt Schmitz and Sgt. Jason Branch of Tigard; Staff Sgt. Bradley Werneth of Poury, Calif; Chief Warrant Officer 2 Janine Smith of Gold Beach; Sgt. Mark Carter of Newberg; Sgt. Brad Stoller of Albany; Sgt. Troy Waddell of Renton, Wash. And Sgt. Silverstre Villela of Portland.
Piloting the third aircraft will be Chief Warrant Officer Kenneth Tinseth of Oregon City; Chief Warrant Officer 4 Rod Comstock and Staff Sgt. John Keo of Salem and Sgt. William Anderson of Aurora. These soldiers will fly in and then return to Ft. Bragg, NC, for completion of their duty.
