3rd Battalion, 116th Cavalry Mobilization Ceremony set for June 30th
LaGrande, Ore. - A formal mobilization ceremony for the soldiers of the 3rd Battalion, 116th Cavalry headquartered in LaGrande, Ore. will be held on June 30, 2004 at the Eastern Oregon University Community Stadium at 11 a.m. Family, friends and media are encouraged to attend.
Approximately 400 soldiers from the 3rd Battalion, 116th Cavalry will gather for this ceremony.
These soldiers come from units in The Dalles, Pendleton, Hermiston, LaGrande, Ontario and Baker City.
Governor Ted Kulongoski, Congressman Greg Walden, 2nd District, Brig Gen. Raymond C. Byrne, Jr., the Acting Adjutant General, Brig. Gen. Dennis Merrill, Commander 82 Brigade, (Troop Command) and Brig. Gen. Alan C. Gayhart, Commander, 116 Brigade Combat Team.
These soldiers will depart for Ft. Bliss, Texas on July 2nd for several months of training both at Ft. Hood and Ft. Polk prior to their departure to Iraq as part of a future rotation in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. They will be joined by approximately 150 soldiers from G Troop, 82nd Cavalry and the 116th Cavalry Brigade out of Idaho.
It is anticipated they will be 365 days “Boots on Ground” in Iraq.
