Two Oregon Army National Guard soldiers killed in Iraq
Salem, Ore. - Two citizen-soldiers of the Oregon Army National Guard were killed in action in Taji, Iraq Sept. 13 when they came under attack.
The soldiers were on patrol in the Taji near Camp Cooke when insurgents detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) and attacked with small arms fire. The soldiers were on patrol in an up-armored Humvee.
The soldiers’ next of kin were notified yesterday evening and early this morning, but the names will not be released until 24 hours after notification in accordance with policy allowing privacy to these families in the early hours of what are undoubtedly very difficult times.
