Bulgarian Air Force officers visit 173rd Fighter Wing at Kingsley Field
KINGSLEY FIELD, Klamath Falls -- Eight Bulgarian air force officers are visiting Kingsley Field in preparation for a training exercise between the Oregon Air National Guard and the BUAF scheduled for next year.
During their visit, which ends Friday, the officers will tour facilities at the F-15 fighter training base and learn how the Air National Guard prepares its Airmen and those from around the world for combat operations.
In addition to learning about fighter training, the visitors will also see air traffic control procedures and training rules.
The Bulgarian delegation includes Maj. Gen. Mladen Kazakov, Deputy Chief of Training for the BUAF, and seven field grade officers who will facilitate a dissimilar air combat training (DACT) exercise between the ORANG and BUAF in June of 2006.
The ORANG will send a delegation to Bulgaria in March to lay the final groundwork for the exercise.
Kingsley Field will host a media event Friday morning. For more information, contact 1st Lt. Lucas Ritter at 541-885-6198.
The familiarization visit between the ORANG and Bulgaria was arranged under the Joint Contact Team Program, a program run by U.S. European Command to provide familiarization training to former Soviet Union aligned nations that are now part of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
The Tennessee National Guard has been the official state partner to Bulgaria through the JCTP, and the ORANG is now supporting Tennessee's lead with the former Eastern-Bloc nation.
