1042nd Medical Company, Oregon Army National Guard to assist in recovery on Mt. McLoughlin
At the request of the Klamath County Sheriff's Office, one UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter and crew will depart the Army Aviation Support Facility in Salem this morning enroute to McMcLoughlin in Jackson County. The will effect the recovery of the climber found on the mountain. Due to the rough terrain, the nine member ground crew from Lane and Klamath County are unable to bring the body off the mountain without jeopardizing their own safety.
The mission is anticipated to be complete early this afternoon.
The crew from the 1042nd Medical Company will effect the recovery using the hoist operation from the helicopter. The remains will then be turned over to Klamath County for disposition. Piloting the aircraft will be Mr. Ken Tinseth and 2nd Lt. Adam McCarthy. Crew members are Staff Sgt. William Welborne, Sgt. Chris Skidmore and Sgt. Troy Trentz. The 1042nd Medical Company will perform this mission as part of their annual training which will conclude today.
