Oregon Guard Soldiers and Airmen prepare for Mobilization for Hurricane Katrina Support Operations
At 9 a.m. on Sept. 2, 2005 members of the Oregon Army and Air National Guard will gather at the Jackson Armory in Portland, Ore. for readiness processing as they prepare to deploy to New Orleans, Louisiana in support or Hurricane Katrina Support Operations.
The 1186th Military Police Company from the Oregon Army National Guard was called to state active duty by Governor Ted Kulongoswki to assist in support operations. These men and women only recently returned from a federal callup in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom to Guantanamo Bay,Cuba where they worked the detainment camp.
Augmenting these men and women who have been called up on involuntary state active duty will be soldiers and airmen who have volunteered to plus up these numbers.
Airmen from the Security Police forces in Kingsley Field in Klamath Falls and the Portland Air National Guard Base have volunteered for this mission. In addition, Military Police and veterans of the Iraqi conflict have also volunteered to meet the requested requirements.
Media is invited to come to the Jackson Armory, located on 6801 Cornfoot Road just west of the entrance to the Air National Guard Base.
Governor Ted Kulongoski will be on hand to talk to these men and women prior to this mission in support of the State of Louisiana
