Media embed with Oregon National Guardsmen supporting hurricane relief
In the coming days, media may have the opportunity to embed with soldiers and airmen of the Oregon National Guard as they deploy to the Gulf Coast in support of relief efforts in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina.
Oregon will send 1,500 soldiers of the 41st Brigade Combat Team, augmented by airmen of the Oregon Air National Guard and support from other Oregon Army National Guard units. As air transportation becomes available, there may be opportunities to embed media at the Portland Air National Guard Base and Kingsley Field in Klamath Falls.
Media interested in embedding with Oregon citizen-soldiers and citizen-airmen should call the Oregon National Guard Public Affairs staff. Media agencies will need to provide the names and social security numbers of the reporters and photographers they wish to send.
Furthermore, media must agree to accept the embed ground rules and sign a hold-harmless agreement. In addition, media who wish to embed must ensure they have appropriate inoculations and are physically capable of working in an austere location. A security briefing may be required.
A specific date has not been set for the embed, however, the opportunity may present itself within 24-48 hours. Media should act quickly to provide the information.
Media may send the required information (name and SSN) to public affairs by email: michael.braibish@or.ngb.army.mil, michael.s.braibish@mil.state.or.us, and kay.f.fristad@mil.state.or.us.
