Governor Kulongoski Announces "Welcome Oregon Donations Center"
NOTE: this is an additional distribution of the release sent by the Governor's office today.
(Salem, OR) – Governor Ted Kulongoski today announced that the "Welcome Oregon Donations Center" is now open for donations to help support the needs of citizens affected by Hurricane Katrina who are anticipated to arrive in Oregon sometime this week.
The center is a cooperative effort undertaken by Oregon Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (ORVOAD). ORVOAD represents most of the major volunteer agencies that play a role in disaster response and are prepared to work together during a disaster event.
"Over the last week, Oregonians have reached out by the thousands wanting to help our fellow citizens affected by Hurricane Katrina," Governor Ted Kulongoski said. "This facility provides Oregonians that central location and information line so that we can make sure our donations best match the needs of the hurricane survivors. Financial support remains the number one need because it is a resource immediately available. However, as we continue to learn more about the individuals affected by the hurricane, the Center will be a valuable clearinghouse of goods and needs."
The warehouse space for donations is furnished by Northwest Medical Teams. Adventist Community Service volunteers will operate the facility and manage donations and dissemination of goods. The phone bank will be operated by 211info. Hours and location of operation are below:
