Oregon National Guard to take part in Portland Police's annual holiday food basket drive
Portland, Ore. – Members of the Oregon National Guard will distribute holiday food baskets to qualified families throughout the Portland Metro area during an annual event coordinated by the Portland Police's Sunshine Division.
The event will take place on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006 at 7:30 a.m. at the Portland Police's Southeast precinct located at 4735 E. Burnside.
The baskets contain all the ingredients to put together a holiday meal, including a four-pound ham. Local companies including Franz Bakery, Botsford, Goodfellows, Ventura Foods and Fred Meyer have donated food items included in the baskets, and individuals from the Oregon National Guard, Civil Air Patrol, Portland Police, and surrounding community volunteer their time to deliver the completed food baskets. Other donated items include toys and stuffed animals, which will be distributed along with the food baskets.
The media is encouraged to attend. There will be opportunity for interviews with volunteers throughout the morning.
