Oregon ARMY National Guard to aid search for missing man
The Oregon National Guard launched a UH-60 Blackhawk around 9 a.m. from the Army Aviation Support Facility in Salem today to assist the search for a man who has gone missing in Linn County.
Officials are concerned the 36 year-old man may have wandered away from a campsite late Friday afternoon. Campers in the missing man's group called the Linn County Sheriff's office Saturday after they searched for him without result.
The man has gone missing around Donaca Lake, near Sweet Home.
Each year the Oregon National Guard assists civil authorities throughout the Pacific Northwest with searches and rescues. The UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter is part of the 1042nd Medical Company (Air Ambulance). Thirty five members of the 1042nd returned from a six-month deployment to Afghanistan in March.
The Linn County Sheriff's office is the lead agency. More information on the ORNG support of the search will be released as it becomes available.
