Youth camp founder, former Oregon Guardsman to be featured in news story
A former commander of the Oregon Air National Guard, WWII Holocaust survivor and founder of an award-winning and nationally-recognized Oregon youth camp, will be featured during a television profile this weekend.

Oregon Air Guard Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Fred M. Rosenbaum will appear on KPTV, on Sunday, July 13, during an interview conducted by television personality and morning news anchor, Pete Ferryman.

Rosenbaum, who grew up in Austria during the Nazi ascension to power, escaped the Holocaust, eventually making his way to the United States with his family.

He enjoyed a distinguished career, rising to the rank of Brigadier General, and played various leadership roles in the Oregon Air National Guard, which culminated in his appointment as the Assistant to the Adjutant General for the Oregon National Guard.

Aside from his philanthropic and business endeavors, Rosenbaum is best known as the founder of a local youth camp which bears his name. Since 1972, Camp Rosenbaum has hosted thousands of at-risk, disadvantaged youth from various housing authorities throughout nine counties throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington.

This year the camp celebrates its 38th year of helping Oregon's youth find hope and realize their dreams. As is the case each year, members of the Oregon National Guard, employees of area Housing Authorities, officers from the Portland Police Bureau, and firefighters from the Gresham Fire Department come together to give these underprivileged kids a camp of a lifetime.

If you would like to learn more about the extraordinary life and contributions of one Oregonian, tune in to the 10 p.m. newscast on KPTV, Channel 12 on Sunday, July 13.

If you would like more information about this year's Camp Rosenbaum, scheduled for July 20-25, at Camp Rilea in Warrenton, Ore., contact Lt. Col. Donna Prigmore, Camp Director, at 541-331-1217.
