Salem based engineers receive mobilization order
SALEM, Ore. – Approximately 186 Oregon Army National Guard members received a mobilization order to deploy to Afghanistan in early December in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Salem's 1249 Engineer Battalion is scheduled to conduct pre-deployment training at Fort McCoy, Wis., as part of a 400-day mobilization.

The 1249 will deploy as the command and control element with units from Calif., Neb., Ga., and Miss., to conduct construction projects in the Regional Command East area of Afghanistan.

"We are going to be doing a real world engineer mission like we are supposed to do," said Lt. Col. Kevin Dial, Commander. "We will be making a difference in that country's security and infrastructure that will last for years."

The unit will also be working at Forward Operating Base Sharana, to help expansion efforts to make it one of the larger facilities in Afghanistan.
