Oregon National Guard to recognize Oregon Congressman's staff member for his support
The Deputy Director of the Oregon Military Department, Brig. Gen. Mike Caldwell, is scheduled to recognize Mr. Frank Van Cleave at his retirement ceremony at Congressman Peter DeFazio's office in Eugene, Ore., Sept. 7, at 3:00 p.m.
Van Cleave will be recognized with a special plaque, commemorating his support of the Oregon National Guard over the past 13 years.  The recognition comes as part of Van Cleave's retirement ceremony.
"As an aide to Congressman Peter DeFazio, Frank Van Cleave has provided unwavering support for active duty service members, veterans, and their families," said Mr. Shannon J. Smyth, Military Aide for Congressman DeFazio.
"Where there has been progress on key issues for Oregon veterans and service members, Frank Van Cleave has played a role," Smyth added.
As an honorably discharged veteran who worked as a veterans employment representative with the State of Oregon before joining DeFazio's staff, Van Cleave also actively supported DeFazio's legislative agenda on behalf of service members, veterans, and dependents.
Van Cleave served as a U.S. Army Medic from 1971-1973, and as a Job Services Representative and Disabled Veterans Representative with the Oregon Employment Department.
He earned his Bachelor degree in English from the University of Oregon in 1995, then served as the Local Veterans Employment Representative before joining DeFazio's staff.
