Open House for the Colonel James Nesmith Readiness Center
An open house for the Colonel James Nesmith Readiness Center in Dallas, Ore. is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, October 18, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the project site, 12830 Westview Drive, Dallas, Ore.
Members of the public and media are invited to attend the open house.  The purpose of the event is to educate the public about plans for the site.
Construction recently began on the 40,000 square foot facility set to be completed in October of 2012.  The Colonel James Nesmith Readiness Center is set to be home of the Oregon National Guard's 162 Engineer Company.
The $18.4 million state of the art facility will serve the surrounding community with flexible rental space and be available for other community uses.  The building is designed to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and State Energy Efficient Design (SEED) requirements.
The project is largely funded through federal dollars.  $12.8 million for the project came from the federal government through the military construction program, while Oregon supported the project with $5.6 million.
The Colonel James Nesmith Readiness Center replaces the existing 18,000 square foot Dallas Armory, which was condemned in 2008 due to structural defects throughout the facility.  The building is more than 100 years old.
The architect on the new facility is THA Architecture of Portland, Ore.  The contractor is Lease Crutcher Lewis, LLC, also of Portland, Ore.
