Superintendent Chris P. Brown 
Superintendent Chris Brown, the 11th Superintendent in the Department’s history, began his law enforcement career in New York, moving to Oregon in 1980.  He worked as a deputy sheriff on the south coast before accepting a job with the Roseburg Police Department in 1985.  After a short time in patrol, Chris was assigned as a narcotics detective and spent an extended period of time assigned to the FBI working international organized crime groups as a case investigator and in undercover roles.  He later served as the drug task force operations supervisor, a patrol shift supervisor, SWAT commander, operations division commander, and in 1999, was named Chief of Police. Chris served as Chief of the Roseburg Police Department until he was appointed to the position of Douglas County Sheriff on June 1, 2003.  In November 2004 he was elected Sheriff. 
He served as Sheriff until accepting the position of Public Safety Service Bureau Commander for the Oregon State Police on January 1, 2008.  His responsibilities as Major included oversight of Oregon’s Law Enforcement Data Systems, Identification Services Division, State Fire Marshal’s Office, Lottery & Tribal Gaming, Forensics Division, Communication Centers, Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Oregon Athletic Commission.  On July 1, 2009, Chris was promoted to the position of Deputy Superintendent.  In August of 2010, Governor Theodore R. Kulongoski nominated Chris to succeed Timothy F. McLain as the 11th Superintendent of the Oregon State Police. 
Chris holds an Executive certification from the Oregon Department of Public Safety and Standards, graduated from Northwest Christian College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Management, and served on numerous boards and committees at the state and national levels.  He is a certified instructor in professional subjects including leadership and supervision, ethics, and traumatic incident intervention.
