Alkali Lake State is in Lake County near the town of Lakeview. The Airport is located 8 miles northeast of Alkali Lake.
The Airport is important to the state because of its location in a remote, low population density region in Oregon. Camping near the airport is permitted. Major employers include local and state government, as well as health care. It serves as the location for the combined Fremont-Winema National Forest headquarters and the Lakeview Ranger district.
Lakeview is also know as one of the best places in North America for hang gliding and paragliding. Runway 18/36 provides visual approaches and measures 6,100 feet in length by 150 feet in width. The Airport accommodates an estimated 50 general aviation operations annually. No aircraft are currently based at the Airport.
