McDermitt State Airport [26U]

McDermitt State Airport [26U]

The remote location of McDermitt State Airport is important to the State's airport system for geographic coverage and access.

The Airport is located approximately 40 miles south of Rome State Airport and 75 miles north of Winnemucca Municipal Airport in Winnemucca, Nevada.

The Airport also provides access to the Fort McDermitt Indian Reservation. The facility is occasionally used by the tribal government. In addition, the Airport is used for recreational flying, agricultural spraying and emergency medical evacuation. The Airport handles an estimated 2,200 general aviation operations annually. It is estimated that 86 percent of these operations are itinerant. There currently is one aircraft based at the Airport.

McDermitt State Airport is located on the Oregon-Nevada border, west of U.S. Route 95. McDermitt State Airport was originally constructed by the Board of Aeronautics in 1967. In 1986, in conjunction with the FAA and Humboldt County, Nevada, a new, relocated and expanded runway was constructed at the airport. The Airport's asphalt runway, Runway 16/34, is 5,900 feet long by 60 feet wide, has LIRL and is a visual runway.
