The Cottage Grove State Airport (61S) Apron Rehabilitation project will begin summer 2025. A future notice will be sent when the schedule and construction start date is confirmed.

This project will repave the main apron and tiedown area, which will be completed in two phases over 90 days. This phased approach will minimize impacts to tenants and maintain access to the runway and taxiways, as well as the 100LL fuel tank.

The runway, taxiways, and west taxilane and apron will not be impacted, though access from some hangars may be restricted depending on the phase of construction. We will accommodate aircraft from hangars where access is restricted with temporary parking on the open portion of the apron.

Project/Closure Schedule:
  • Project schedule and start date are To Be Determined (TBD)
  • The project duration is 90 days
  • The runway will remain open for the duration of the project.
During construction, the closed portions of the apron will be off limits to all foot, vehicle, and aircraft traffic. Once the project begins, any aircraft restricted by the apron closure will not be able to relocate until the apron reopens after that phase of construction is completed.

(!) For the most current updates on field conditions and surface closures throughout this project, please check the latest NOTAMs. Helicopters may arrive or depart directly to/from the open portions of the apron. However, space is limited and construction personnel and equipment will be on the apron frequently. As always, please remain outside of, and avoid low flight over closed work areas.

We understand any closure impacts pilots and the community. Our goal is to maintain and improve the Cottage Grove State Airport so it can continue to operate safely and efficiently. We appreciate your patience and understanding while we maintain 61S.

Update - The Cottage Grove State Airport (61S) Apron Rehabilitation project is anticipated to be substantially completed and reopen the apron Monday October 13th. 1-2 additional day-closures may be needed to complete final marking application, dependent on weather.

During construction we encountered unexpected issues with underlying soils that were unable to carry construction loads. These conditions and the appropriate treatment are the cause for delay in completing the project. We have worked through these issues and expect the remainder of the project to wrap up smoothly.
