9/8 Update: The Siletz Bay State Airport (S45) Runway and Electrical Rehabilitation Project is ongoing, the anticipated reopening date is Friday September 19th. The runway and taxiways are closed while this work is being done.
As of 9/8, paving on the runway is completed. Final runway seal coat, shoulder grading, electrical improvements, and markings are in progress.
During excavation, we encountered soft subgrades that required further assessment and treatment which contributed to delay in this project. We apologize for the inconvenience, and are working to make sure the end result turns out right.
The Project:
This project will resurface the aging north 2/3rds of the runway, as well as the low portions on the south end. It will also replace the nearly 40 year old airfield electrical system.
Project/Closure Schedule:
- Construction Started: 6/16/2025
- Anticipated Reopening: 9/19/2025*
- There is only 1 work area
- The runway, parallel taxiway, and taxiway connectors will be closed until 9/19/25*
- *Reopening dates are subject to change. Updates will be shared in future notices.
REMINDER: During construction, the runway and taxiways will be closed to all foot, vehicle, and aircraft traffic. Once construction begins, any fixed-wing aircraft at S45 will not be able to depart until the airport reopens.
(!) Closure and reopening dates/times are subject to change. For the most current updates on field conditions and surface closures throughout this project, please check the latest NOTAMs. Helicopters may arrive or depart directly to/from the apron. However, space is limited and construction personnel and equipment will be on the apron frequently. As always, please remain outside of, and avoid low flight over closed work areas.
We understand any closure impacts pilots and the community. Our goal is to maintain and improve the Siletz Bay State Airport so it can continue to operate safely and efficiently. We appreciate your patience and understanding while we maintain S45.
