Siletz Bay State Airport [S45]

The community of Gleneden Beach is located along the Pacific Ocean coast, south of Siletz Bay in Lincoln County.

The Siletz Bay area is primarily a recreational area with numerous vacation resorts located throughout the area. Siletz Bay State Airport is located east of U.S. Route 101, approximately one mile east of Gleneden Beach.

The 75-acre airport, which is owned by the ODA, provides support to its community and the many surrounding recreational areas. Nearby points of interest include Gleneden Beach, Lincoln Beach, Devils Lake State Park, Depoe Bay State Park, and Lincoln City. Tourism and related-businesses are the primary economic catalysts for the region.

The Airport's single runway, Runway 17/35, measures 3,297 feet in length by 60 feet in width. This visual approach runway is equipped with a full parallel taxiway and MIRL. The Airport accommodates an estimated 3,830 general aviation operations annually. It is estimated that 61 percent of these operations are itinerant. Approximately 13 aircraft are based at the Airport.

Update: The Siletz Bay State Airport (S45) Runway and Electrical Rehabilitation Project will resume this summer, and we expect the runway to be closed for approximately 60 to 70 days while this work is being done.

A future notice will be sent when the schedule and closure start date is confirmed.

This project will resurface the aging north 2/3rds of the runway, as well as the low portions on the south end. It will also replace the nearly 40 year old airfield electrical system. The contractor got a head start on electrical improvements last fall, the remaining pavement and electrical work will occur in the spring/summer of 2025. By getting a head start in 2024, this means that the closure this summer will be shorter, lessening the impacts during better flying weather.

Project/Closure Schedule:

Starting Monday October 21st, the runway and taxiways will be closed for approximately 4 weeks - Completed
Starting spring/summer 2025, the runway and taxiways will be closed for approximately 8-10 weeks for the pavement and remaining electrical work

Update: The Siletz Bay State Airport (S45) Runway and Electrical Rehabilitation Project will resume Monday June 16th. We expect the runway and taxiways to be closed for approximately 60 days while this work is being done.

Update: The Siletz Bay State Airport (S45) Runway and Electrical Rehabilitation Project is ongoing and the anticipated reopening date is Friday September 12th. The runway and taxiways are closed while this work is being done.

During excavation, we encountered soft subgrades that required further assessment and treatment which contributed to delay in this project. We apologize for the inconvenience, and are working to make sure the end result turns out right.

The Project:

This project will resurface the aging north 2/3rds of the runway, as well as the low portions on the south end. It will also replace the nearly 40 year old airfield electrical system.

9/8 Update: The Siletz Bay State Airport (S45) Runway and Electrical Rehabilitation Project is ongoing, the anticipated reopening date is Friday September 19th. The runway and taxiways are closed while this work is being done.

As of 9/8, paving on the runway is completed. Final runway seal coat, shoulder grading, electrical improvements, and markings are in progress.

9/8 Update: Siletz Bay State Airport Runway Project Ongoing - Reopening September

9/19/2025

The runway at the Siletz Bay State Airport has reopened.

Portions of the runway have been repaved, resealed, and the dip has been leveled out for smooth landings. All new lighting has also been installed.

There is equipment on the apron as the contractor will be completing punch-list items over the next week or two. Please check NOTAMs for the latest on surface closures and Work In Progress. The contractor will be hydroseeding around the runway and taxiways the week of September 22nd, but no closures are expected.

After approximately 30 days, there will be one additional day closure of the runway to apply the final coat of markings. Additional outreach will be sent when more information is available.

Siletz Bay State Airport Runway Reopened

10/20/2025

Update: The runway and taxiways at the Siletz Bay State Airport (S45) will close 10/21 for final markings application. This work will complete the Runway and Electrical Rehabilitation Project, which was substantially completed in September.

Anticipated Reopening: 7pm, 10/21/2025*
*Reopening dates are subject to change.
- The runway, parallel taxiway, and taxiway connectors will be closed starting 9am. The runway and a portion of Taxiway A will reopen as soon as work in those areas is completed. The remaining portion of the taxiway may be closed until work is fully completed.
- Back-taxi on the runway may be required when the taxiway is partially closed.
