Wakonda Beach State Airport [R33]

Wakonda Beach State Airport [R33]

Wakonda Beach State Airport is located three miles south of the community of Waldport, east of U.S. Route 101, near the Alsea Bay.

In 1956, the Board of Aeronautics built Wakonda Beach State Airport on donated land. The Airport was constructed as part of the State's coastal airport system.

The Waldport area is primarily a recreational and tourist area, with numerous State parks located north and south of the airport where camping is available. The remote location of Wakonda Beach State Airport is important for geographic coverage and access to the community of Waldport. Toledo State Airport is located approximately 20 miles north of Waldport and Florence Municipal Airport is located approximately 30 miles south of Waldport.

Wakonda Beach State Airport has one runway, Runway 16/34, which has a turf surface and measures 2,000 feet long by 30 feet wide. The Airport does not have any lighting. The Airport is used mainly for recreational flying and flight instruction. The Airport handles an estimated 830 general aviation operations annually. It is estimated that 90 percent of these operations are itinerant. Approximately three aircraft are based at the Airport.

Airport Information

The Oregon Department of Aviation owns and operates 28 airports. Of these, nine airports have been designated as warning airports. These airports do not meet normal dimensional standards and have conditions that require specific pilot knowledge. They require special techniques and procedures to use safely and may not be usable by many aircraft under normal conditions.

If you have not flown into Cascade Locks, Crescent Lake, McKenzie Bridge, Owyhee Reservoir, Pacific City, Pinehurst, Santiam Junction, Toledo, or Wakonda Beach recently we encourage you to contact us at (800) 874-0102 to get the latest information on them.

We also encourage you to use the "sign in" boxes we have at some of the state airports. This allows us to better assess the level of use at some of our smaller airports. If you observe any problems at any of the state airports, please let us know so that we can correct the problem as soon as possible.

For specific questions regarding the State Warning Airports, contact ODAV at 800-874-0102 or mail.aviation@ODAV.oregon.gov.
