Educator Diversity

Educator Equity Report

We believe that each and every Oregon student deserves a high quality education and boundless opportunities for the future. Research has shown that students of color benefit from having high-achieving teachers with cultural backgrounds similar to their own because they provide real-life models of career success and academic engagement. Educators representing culturally and linguistically diverse students serve as cultural brokers, helping students navigate their school environment and culture, but also increasing involvement of families which impacts student attendance, achievement, graduation rates and postsecondary aspirations.

Each year, we produce the Educator Equity Report to track Oregon’s progress in increasing the number of teacher candidates prepared to teach and ready for hire as well as the number of culturally and racially diverse teachers and administrators hired in Oregon’s public schools.
