[background violin] See yourself at DCBS. (Narrator) At the Department of Consumer and Business Services we have a wide variety of jobs focused on helping Oregonians. We are Oregon’s largest consumer protection and business regulatory agency; our mission is to protect and serve Oregon’s consumers and workers while supporting a positive business climate. (DCBS Director Andrew Stolfi) The department is made up of the Building Codes Division, the Division of Financial Regulation, the Ombuds Office for Oregon Workers, Oregon OSHA, the Small Business Ombudsman, the Workers’ Compensation Board, and the Workers Compensation Division. (Information Technology and Research Solution Development and Delivery Manager Amit Dass) The Department of Consumer and Business Services is one of the most well-recognized agencies within state government. It provides a multitude of services to the citizens of Oregon and I can vouch for it as a great place to work, having worked in a lot of companies in the private sector, and quite a few agencies in the public sector, State of Oregon, Department of Consumer and Business Services is a great place to work. Please all of you must try to come and work for us. (Speaker 3 referring to work within Oregon OSHA) We may not know whose lives we save, but any of us who worked in this field for very long are sure that somewhere along the way we've prevented a serious injury, we've stopped someone from getting very sick, and we've saved lives. One of the important things that we do is try to educate people. So that employers know what's expected of them, and so that workers know what's expected of them and of their employers when it comes to providing a safe workplace. The other thing I really enjoy about the job, and this is true of most of the jobs in the organization, is I get to see a lot of variety, the job isn't one where everything is the same day in and day out. We confront different issues, we confront different hazards, we confront different situations, and I enjoy that; it's nice to have new challenges and every once in a while, it's nice to be surprised by what comes up at the office.
