[up-tempo music] Creating a resume (Narrator) Employee Services at the Department of Consumer and Business Services is dedicated to employee success. We think that starts even before you join our team. We want to help you tell employers about your qualifications and experience and your resume is the document that will help get you into the next stages of the job recruitment process. Here are some tips for building your resume. Make it easy for the hiring manager to contact you, include your name, and contact information on all documents you submit. Remember to include your city, email address, and a phone number where it is easy to reach you. Let us know where you worked and when, include your employers' company name and dates of employment. Use a month/year format. Just because you were not employed for a period of time does not mean you weren't learning valuable skills. You may want to mention the experience you gained during that time. Share your qualifications. You have a lot of great experience, use your resume to tell us in detail what you did in those jobs. What were your responsibilities? How does your experience apply? Not just the activities you did. Be sure to include month and year relating to your work history, and whether you worked full time or part time. Did you work on an unpaid project or volunteer? We want to know about it! Remember to include relevant experience. Whether it was paid or unpaid and the approximate hours per week or month you did that work. Be clear and succinct. Avoid jargon or acronyms, explain information in clear terms so that the hiring manager is not confused and does not have to Google terms. Presentation matters.Make sure your resume looks professional and easy to read. We recommend using 12 point Arial or Times New Roman font. With one-inch margins, on a plain white document, with black ink, so that if it's copied it will look good. Also, unless the job posting instructs you otherwise there's no correct number of pages. Make it legible. If the reviews cannot read your resume, you may not be considered further. Proof read. Make a good first impression by using correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Remember to run spell check Important: Save your attachments as PDFs to keep your formatting and content consistent. Save file names that make it easy for hiring managers. For example: Save your file using your first name, last name, and resume so that the hiring manager knows right away that the file is your resume. Be sure to attach your resume to your online application if it is requested. Forgetting to attach your resume will keep your application from being considered further. You have a lot to offer, and we hope that someday you will be part of a team at the Department of Consumer and Business Services. 503-378-3200 dcbs.recruiting@dcbs.oregon.gov oregon.gov/dcbs/careers
