Community Partners
Teenage couple
Oregonians join the nation in successfully reducing teen pregnancy. Our success results from sustained, comprehensive, broad-based efforts. We need all strategies and all groups working together to continue the trend of teen pregnancy decline. Real solutions lie at the grassroots level with families, communities and young people themselves. Teen pregnancy prevention demands varied and sustained actions from every sector of society.

We have learned that successful strategies to reduce teen pregnancy must:

  • Be long-term
  • Be comprehensive.
  • Be integrated with other strategies, services and systems.
  • Reach young people before they are sexually active and continue after they begin sexual
    activity.
  • Consider underlying risks and contributing factors, such as poverty and sexual abuse.

Oregon’s teenagers need:

  • Opportunities for positive development through education, recreation, volunteer service and career planning.
  • Skills to delay sexual involvement.
  • Easy access to contraceptive information and services.
