Home for Good Mentors

Introduction

Home for Good in Oregon (HGO) is a statewide program that works with hundreds of volunteer mentors from faith and community-based organizations. This re-entry program enables community members to provide offenders with a pro-social spiritual support system, which helps them to develop their spirituality and to learn new pro-social attitudes and ways of behaving without crime. Developing such pro-social networks, associates, and skills are key components of evidenced-based practices for reducing recidivism.

Mission: Utilize strategic partnerships between state and community faith-based organizations to build a seamless system of support and spiritual guidance that promotes the successful restoration of people from prison back to their families and communities.

Purpose: Connect releasing AICs to faith based mentors, faith communities, and resources

Become a Mentor

To become an HGO mentor, please send HGO an email or contact an Oregon Department of Corrections (DOC) chaplain at a facility near you. The chaplain will be able to answer any questions you may have about HGO, and can guide you through the process of becoming an HGO mentor. As a part of that process, the chaplain will hold a one day training session for new mentors.
