REMARKS AS PREPARED
50th Anniversary Marine Corps All Oregon Platoon
June 7, 2018
Good afternoon. Thank you, Terry, for that introduction. It is truly an honor to be with you all.
Today, we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the All Oregon Platoon-- Platoon 1018. We humbly thank and salute the 80 brave men who proudly represented the State of Oregon in the United States Marine Corps.
I also want to extend my sincere appreciation to all of Oregon’s military veterans, service members, and families here with us today.
As the daughter of an Air Force member, I have incredible respect and admiration for those who serve and protect our state and the nation in our armed forces.
It was Governor Tom McCall who first proclaimed June 7th as All Oregon Platoon Day, as he also activated the band of 80 Oregon brothers.
At the time, in 1968, our nation was in the throes of war. To be activated into service was no small notion. Yet, those who answered the call to serve did so with a deep love for country and conviction in their sense of duty.
As Commander-in-Chief of Oregon’s National Guard, and on behalf of all Oregonians and a grateful nation, I extend my sincere appreciation to the members of the All Oregon Platoon here with us today.
I also hope we remember the legacy and lives of those who made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as those who are no longer here with us.
To all of our service members, veterans, and military families, I thank you for the contributions that you’ve made to keep our great state and nation safe.
It is now my honor to read and sign the proclamation.
WHEREAS: Fifty years ago, the All Oregon Platoon, later known as Platoon 1018, was formed and comprised of 80 young men from all over the State of Oregon; and
WHEREAS: The All Oregon Platoon distinguished themselves as the Recruit Series Honor Platoon, bringing great pride and admiration to the State of Oregon; and

NOW, THEREFORE: I, Kate Brown, Governor of the State of Oregon, hereby proclaim June 7, 2018 to be All Oregon Platoon Day in Oregon and encourage all Oregonians to join in this observance.
