REMARKS AS PREPARED
Governor Kate Brown
May 7, 2018
Good afternoon, I’m Governor Kate Brown.
I am pleased to see so many of you here today to join me in celebrating Public Service Recognition Week and State Employee Recognition Day.
I am so proud of the diversity of state employees we have working across the state. Some are new to state employment, in their first year or two of state service; some are our veterans, who have served 30 years—or more.
But what we have in common is that you are all committed to excellence.
You are all committed to making our great state even better.
And you all get what being a public servant is really about—serving others.
Every day you roll up your sleeves and come to work, knowing you can make a difference, and provide your fellow Oregonians the services across the state they rely on to be healthy, happy, and productive.
When I look at the breadth of your collective body of work, I am amazed by all that you do to make Oregon a fantastic place to live, work and play.
I know that being a public servant isn’t always easy. But, you have chosen a profession that makes Oregon a better place for your family, your friends, and your neighbors.
You serve with integrity and honor. Each one of you is doing work that is changing the face of Oregon.
And while this week of recognition comes only once a year, for those of us privileged to know you and work alongside you, every day is State Employee Recognition Day.
So today, I speak for many other Oregonians when I say it is an honor and a privilege to call you my colleagues.
You and the work you do make me proud to serve as your Governor. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
