Rise Above Plastic Pollution Proclamation
Thursday, March 14, 2019
I am thrilled to join with the Oregon Ocean Policy Advisory Council and the Surfrider Foundation to protect Oregon’s landscape, and acknowledge the impact of plastic waste on our beautiful shorelines and our stunning seas.
You are relentless advocates for Oregon. With your help, we can protect the environment that makes our state so special.
And today, we are standing together to take the next step in preserving the beauty and bounty of Oregon for future generations.
Oregon’s identity is woven into our land. From the indigenous tribes across our state, to the farmers of the Willamette Valley. From the Rogue River, to the Wallowas. From the Alvord Desert, to the mouth of the Columbia. Urban and rural, Republican and Democrat.
And it is our duty, as environmental stewards, to protect the land and waters that have come to define our state.
Plastic waste is everywhere. And, too often, discarded anywhere.
It’s up to us to notice its impact and take action against its outcome.
It’s challenging to think about a total elimination of plastics, but every day, we can each make a difference.
It is now my honor to proclaim today as Rise Above Plastic Pollution Day in Oregon.
