Limited edition of the almanac features winning essays from statewide contest
Salem, OR—Oregon Secretary of State Dennis Richardson will be available to sign copies of the 2017-2018 Oregon Blue Book on Monday, March 20, from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. The signing will take place outside the Oregon State Capitol Gift Shop located in the Capitol building in Salem. Joining him will be the cover photographers and this year's student essay contest winners.

The theme of this newest edition of the Oregon Blue Book is “Outdoor Recreation” and features a front cover image of the Three Sisters Wilderness by Jason Brownlee of Bend. The back cover image is of Newport's Yaquina Head Lighthouse by Jeffrey Green of Eugene.

This edition of the Oregon Blue Book also has a photo exhibit of outdoor recreation in the Oregon Cascade Mountains and Pacific Crest Trail, Oregon artwork, and memorabilia from Oregon's museums and historical societies. Also included is a history of outdoor recreation in Oregon and the winning essays from a statewide contest open to Oregon's elementary and middle school children. The essays focus on the children's favorite outdoor activities.

The Oregon Blue Book, Oregon's official almanac and fact book, has been updated and published every other year since 1911. It is an institution, an Oregon state icon, and a collector's item. This latest edition was printed as a limited edition with only 1,500 books available for purchase.
