Salem, OR—Governor Kate Brown today announced the appointment of Serena Stoudamire Wesley as Youth Development Director. The Youth Development Council's work supports the Governor's Future Ready Oregon initiative by helping youth who face barriers to education and the workforce get back on the path to high school graduation, college or career. The appointment is effective May 1.

“Serena Stoudamire Wesley brings a well-honed lens of equity and inclusion to some of the most vital work for Oregon's growth—helping our students to graduate from high school with a plan for their future," said Governor Brown. "Re-engagement and dropout prevention are critical to fully realize the potential of Future Ready Oregon, and I look forward to Serena's thoughtful leadership that will benefit both our young people and our economy.”

Stoudamire Wesley has over twenty years of experience building and sustaining programs in nonprofits, community relations and government. She currently serves as the policy director for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Governor's office. Previously, Stoudamire Wesley held a similar position at the Chief Education Office. Prior to state service, Serena held a variety of roles in children and family services for organizations in the Portland Metro area.

Stoudamire Wesley is a member of the Portland Children's Levy allocation committee, and previously represented the Chief Education Office on the Education Northwest Board of Directors and Executive Committee for the Oregon Leadership Network (OLN). Serena holds a BS in healthcare administration from Concordia University.
