Interim Director James Schroeder to Step Down Effective March 17th
Salem, OR—
Governor Tina Kotek today announced that she is beginning a search for a permanent director of the Oregon Health Authority (OHA). Interim Director James Schroeder will be stepping down effective March 17, 2023.
“It has been an honor to serve the state and assist the agency during this time of transition,” Interim Director James Schroeder said. “Instead of pursuing the permanent director position, I am choosing to focus on my family. I want to thank the Governor and the talented staff at OHA for prioritizing the health and well-being of Oregonians and tackling the most urgent challenges facing our state.”
During his time at OHA, Interim Director Schroeder helped the agency move forward the new 1115 Medicaid waiver, manage Medicaid redetermination, and prioritize behavioral health, including onboarding key leadership to lead that critical work.
“I want to thank Interim Director Schroeder for jumping in on day one of this administration to lead the incredibly important work of the Oregon Health Authority,” Governor Tina Kotek said. “I also want to thank the staff at OHA for continuing to work hard everyday to provide critical services for Oregonians across the state. Improving access to mental health and addiction services remains a top priority for my administration, and I’m looking forward to bringing on a permanent director who will lead the agency in carrying that work forward.”
