Physical Education Requirements - Senate Bill 4

Senate Bill 4 amended ORS 329.496 ORS 329.496 requires K-5 (6) students receive physical education 150 minutes per week for the entire school year and students in grades 6 – 8 receive 225 minutes per week for the entire school year. There is a phase in of the minutes over the years, starting in the 2019-20 school year for K-5 (6), and 2021-22 for grades 6 – 8.

Every school district is to be in full compliance for K – 5 (6) in 2020-21 school year, and for grades 6 – 8 in the 2022-23 school year.
