Social Sciences Professional Development

As the result of reform efforts that began with the Oregon Act for the 21st Century expectations for students, and consequently teachers, have been raised. To meet these new expectations educators are being asked to master new skills and responsibilities and deepen their content knowledge. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is one way to meet these needs.

Oregon Social Sciences Teacher Update: A monthly e-newsletter that provides teachers and other educators with information about professional development opportunities, teacher and student competitions and awards, and lectures, concerts, and exhibitions.

Social Sciences Videoconference Materials

ODE staff offered professional development sessions to aid teachers in implementing the Social Science Analysis work sample beginning during the 2004-2005 school year. Materials from the sessions are available here that provide guidance for classroom instruction and work sample scoring.

These maps provide guidance in organizing instruction that provides students with the opportunity to master Oregon's Common Curriculum Goals and Content Standards in the social sciences.
