In May 2022, the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) and the Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC) received a
to develop a statewide implementation plan for computer science education to ensure access to comprehensive computer science education opportunities to every public school student in this state by the 2027-2028 school year.
With extensive community engagement and the support of a Computer Science Consult Group, the Computer Science Education Statewide Implementation Plan nears completion! Watch for a Draft Preview of the plan to be released mid-September and the final full release of the plan around the beginning of October.
ODE and the HECC engaged with more than 700 Oregonians and collected more than 1800 comments and feedback through extensive listening sessions with teachers, students, community members, administrators, higher-education representatives, and industry professionals. The engagements occurred in three phases.
ODE and the HECC would like to express their appreciation to the 45 students, educators, community members, higher education representatives, and industry professionals who gave of their time and expertise to support the development of the Computer Science Education Statewide Implementation Plan.
