Oregon Response to Instruction and Intervention Applications for Elementary Math Cadre 2 (2018-2020)

Applications Available to Participate in ORTIi

The Oregon Department of Education is pleased to announce that applications to participate in the Oregon Response to Instruction and Intervention (ORTIi) initiative in the area of elementary math, beginning in the fall of 2018-19, are now available. The application deadline is 11:59 PM, May 25, 2018.

The Oregon Response to Instruction and Intervention (ORTIi) initiative has supported districts across the state with the implementation of evidenced-based, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) in literacy since the Fall of 2005, and has a proven history of effectiveness. ORTIi expanded its scope in 2015-16 when it began supporting districts in the areas of middle school literacy and elementary math. Since 2005, ORTIi has provided training and technical assistance to over 100 school districts in Oregon.

The goals of the ORTIi initiative include:

  • Facilitate the implementation of MTSS that is consistent with the work of other ODE offices and initiatives.
  • Increase the percentage of students meeting benchmark in reading and math.
  • Decrease the percentage of students at high-risk for reading and math failure.
  • Close the achievement gap that exists between historically underserved student groups.
  • Increase the percentage of students accurately identified as having Specific Learning Disabilities.

A maximum of 5 districts will be selected to participate in the Elementary Math Cadre 2, beginning in the Fall of 2017-18. To be eligible to participate, districts must:

  • Be an Oregon public school district that has completed a full ORTIi training sequence in elementary literacy and be maintaining a comprehensive RTI system at that level.
  • Use an ODE approved researched-based elementary core math program, OR use an independent adoption that includes materials that meet the criteria established by the State Board of Education. Districts with independent adoptions will complete the ODE Math Adoption Criteria checklist.
  • Have a research-based universal screener for math, or be in the process of acquiring one that can be implemented in the fall of 2018.
  • Have commitment from the core leadership team to implement a comprehensive MTSS in the area of math for ALL students.

Detailed information about the requirements for participation, the supports and benefits to participating districts, and the application process are included in the application materials linked below. A live webinar with additional information and an opportunity to ask questions will be provided on May 8th from 10:00 to 11:00.
