The Student Success Act provides additional incentives for meal reimbursements to sponsors of the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs. The incentives are beginning in School Year 2020-21.
School sites that are eligible for the federal Community Eligibility Provision, whose federal free reimbursement rate is below 90%, the Oregon CEP Incentive will supplement the reimbursements to be equal to 90% free. To take advantage of this incentive, follow the instructions on the ODE Special Provisions webpage.
School sites may choose to participate in the Oregon Expanded Income Guideline Incentive. Students who do not qualify for the federal free or reduced meal benefit but whose household income falls between 186% - 300% of the federal poverty rate, will have their “paid meal price” paid by the State of Oregon. This option is available through individual household income applications only. Additional information is available on the School Nutrition Program Eligibility webpage.
Breakfast after the Bell is required for school sites whose student population is 70% federal free/reduced eligible. Equipment grants are available for all such required sites. Sites that are already reaching 70% or more of their free/reduced eligible students with their existing breakfast program may claim an exemption to this requirement. Additional information is available on the Breakfast After the Bell section of the School Breakfast Program webpage.
