About

enlarged project map

The purpose of this project is to improve safety and mobility from Rickreall Road to Doaks Ferry Road NW. It will address safety and crash history problems along this corridor.

We're currently designing:

  • An interchange at the OR 22 and OR 51/Independence Highway intersection.
  • Two new access roads. Both roads will connect near the new OR 22 and OR 51 interchange.
  • A separated multiuse path to improve conditions for people walking, biking and rolling.

Project Information

This area has seen increasing traffic and a relatively high rate of crashes. Improving safety and access to OR 22 are important for your trip, whether you're a local headed to Monmouth and Independence on OR 51, a truck driver delivering goods, or a tourist headed to the coast.

Our goal of the planning and design process is to:

  • Improve safety at the OR 22 and OR 51 intersection.

  • Provide safe access for local residents and businesses along OR 22.

  • Support the community growth and economic development in the area.

Project tasks:

  • Environmental research and onsite investigations.

  • Review and document right-of-way needs.

  • Develop plans and cost estimates.

Issues this project addresses:

With the help of the community, the project team has identified some of the issues this project plans to address.

  • Making a left turn at the OR 22 and OR 51 intersection is challenging due to heavy traffic and high vehicle speeds.

  • To avoid using the OR 22 and OR 51 intersection, some drivers have been taking South Oak Grove Road which increases safety concerns on local roads.

  • Drivers can find it challenging to safely enter or exit OR 22 from local roads or commercial properties due to the speed difference of vehicles.
