Effective contraceptive use, health equity

Veronica Sunderland-Perez, Program Manager for Health and Wellness at Latino Network, is a bilingual and bicultural public health social worker with over 15 years’ experience in the field of sexual and reproductive health, focusing on outreach, curriculum development, education and evaluation of Latino-specific programs. She provides technical assistance to team members across multiple departments and the Multnomah County Health Department, Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette, SEI, Native American Youth and Family Center, and Boys & Girls Club to design, plan, implement and evaluate culturally specific sexuality education. The primary goal of this project is to decrease unplanned teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections among communities of color through the provision of evidence-based sexuality education and referrals to youth health services. She has also implemented and evaluated youth sexual and reproductive health and rights programs in North Carolina, Guatemala and Mexico. Veronica earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Oregon, and master’s degrees in Social Work and Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Vanessa F. La Torre, Coordinator for Health and Wellness, brings 20 years of community health education for youth and families in the nonprofit sector, with a focus on communities of color, LGBTQ and homeless youth. In the last 7 years, she has provided technical assistance and support to community partners and agencies on sexual health education and HIV/AIDS prevention. Throughout her career, she has designed, implemented, evaluated and coordinated sexual health programs for youth and families. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in adolescent development, designing and delivering staff development trainings, organizational leadership and mentorship to inspire growth. Vanessa has a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from California State University-Fullerton, and a Master of Public Health from Portland State University.
