Mrs. Sonya Littledeer-Evans earned her BA Degree at the University of Oregon in Political Science with a Minor in Spanish. Sonya began her career in the community justice field in Central Oregon as a Juvenile Probation Officer and then Department Supervisor, having been in the field 17 years. She currently manages a county juvenile justice department. Sonya earned her Masters of Public Administration Degree through PSU in 2008.
Drawing from her own experiences of poverty, discrimination, multicultural heritage and of being a juvenile delinquent, Sonya has been a motivational speaker, trainer and facilitator for over 20 years. Sonya has spoken and offered trainings on a national, state and local level dealing with cultural competency, disproportionate minority contact, gender specific issues, working with youth, equity, inclusion and social justice. In 2003, through a sponsorship by the Oregon Criminal Justice Commission Sonya was certified as a Cultural Competency trainer and serves on the cadre of Cultural Competency Trainers in Oregon. In 2008 Sonya was a co-founder of the Let’s Talk Diversity Coalition, which became one of three Regional Equity Coalitions funded by the Oregon Health Authority. Sonya serves as the lead Diversity Trainer for the Coalition. Sonya also serves as a trainer on the Oregon Juvenile Department Directors Association Training Faculty.
Sonya consults for her own consulting firm, Littledeer-Evans Consulting, and in 2012 Littledeer-Evans Consulting was placed on the Oregon Health Authority, Office of Equity and Inclusion’s Qualified Trainer Registry for Diversity, Inclusion, and Health Equity Training Services.
