CCOs, tribal health systems and other publicly funding health plans may coordinate several simultaneous programs or initiatives supporting health system transformation, including but not limited to, transformation and quality strategy plans and performance improvement projects.

Health services research, also known as health systems research or health policy and systems research, is a multidisciplinary scientific field that examines how people get access to health care practitioners and health care services, how much care costs, and what happens to patients as a result of this care. Studies in health systems research investigate how social factors, health policy, financing systems, organizational structures and processes, medical technology, and personal behaviors affect access to health care, the quality and cost of health care, and quantity and quality of life. It brings together social science perspectives with the contributions of individuals and institutions engaged in delivering health services.

Program evaluation provides a systematic assessment of the processes and/or outcomes of a program with the intent of furthering its development and improvement. Evaluation also supports the identification and spread of promising or best-practices and provides findings for data-based decisions.
