OSH suspends friends, family visitation

Friday, March 13, 2020

The health and safety of patients is our top priority. For that reason, Oregon State Hospital (OSH) has suspended patient and family visitation on the Salem and Junction City Campuses beginning Saturday, March 14, for at least 30 days. Visits to patients in hospice care will continue.

This decision complies with new federal and state directives to limit exposure of people in in-patient psychiatric facilities to COVID-19. As a reminder, there are currently no identified cases of COVID-19 at either campus.

OSH understands the critical role friends and family they play in a patient’s journey of recovery. This decision was not made lightly, and we understand the impact that this necessary action will have on the people in our care and on their families and friends.

In the meantime, we have expanded phone times. Unit phones will remain on from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. each day, and patients can call their loved ones at other times by asking staff for assistance.  We are working on a plan to possibly offer “virtual” visitations. Please look for more messages about this.

We hope to resume normal visitation as soon as possible and will make changes as we receive more guidance.

Please call Consumer & Family Services at 503-947-8109 in Salem and 541-465-2785 in Junction City for more information. You can also email osh.consumer&familyservices@state.or.us.
