Art Therapy Program to Begin Issuing Licenses January 2, 2020

Tuesday, September 03, 2019

While House Bill 2432 (2017) created the Art Therapy Program under the Health Licensing Office (HLO), problematic bill language prevented the HLO from issuing licenses until the bill was repaired in the 2019 legislative session under Senate Bill 29.

Permanent Oregon Administrative Rules for the Art Therapy Program will go into effect on December 1, 2019. The administrative rules outline qualifications for the license, renewal and continuing education requirements.

Applications to obtain initial licensure as an Art Therapist or a Certified Art Therapist will be available on the HLO website beginning Monday, December 2, 2019. As part of the application process, applicants currently credentialed as a Registered Art Therapist (ATR), or a Board Certified Registered Art Therapist (ATR-BC), must contact the Art Therapy Credentials Board, Inc. (ATCB) at atcbinfo@atcb.or to request official documentation of certification be sent to the Health Licensing Office.

For questions regarding the Art Therapy Rules, please contact Anne Thompson at (503) 373-1904, or email anne.p.thompson@state.or.us.
